Israeli-Palestinian Young Political Leaders

The Peres Center has teamed up with a number of Palestinian NGOs to jointly facilitate the "Israeli-Palestinian Young Political Leaders" program, which brings together emerging Israeli and Palestinian leaders from political parties and public administration bodies to participate in joint dialogue and training workshops and lay the foundations for continued professional relations. This working session will provide a unique platform for fifteen Israeli and fifteen Palestinian up-and-coming political leaders to come together and advance their joint mission.

Overcoming Hurdles through Sport

This panel will open with a short ceremony honoring the steadfast commitment of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to the Peres Center’s “Twinned Peace Basketball Schools” program for Palestinian and Israeli girls.
Sport has an unparalleled ability to overcome barriers of language, politics and religion, and as such, is a powerful tool in the modern day challenge of peacebuilding. This panel will explore ways in which sport contributes to the social and cognitive development of children and youth, brings people together from both sides of the conflict divide, and instills values of teamwork and common goals.

The Peres Center, together with a Palestinian partner organization, is establishing ZOORA – a multi-faceted Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding initiative that utilizes film, television, and the internet to promote peace and coexistence through comprehensive training, the development of an independent Palestinian film industry, and film and television productions and co-productions. This session is dedicated to the memory of the late Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin
Peacebuilding must be a comprehensive process. State leaders may facilitate peace and serve as major players in the process of peacebuilding, however, to truly lay the foundations for peaceful relations, the citizens must also be willing and able participants in this process. This concluding session will address the complex issue of developing a participatory, inclusive and sustainable Middle East peace. The panel will be followed by a “question/answer” segment between the veteran panelists and emerging Palestinian and Israeli figures from the Peres Center's “Young Political Leaders” program.

“Frames of Reality” Exhibition, Tel Aviv-Jaffa

Throughout 2008, some 20 Palestinian and Israeli professional photojournalists from reputed news agencies have participated in the “Frames of Reality” project – undertaken by the Peres Center in cooperation with Local Testimony. In addition to an impressive book, the joint creative experience has resulted in this exhibition, which showcases fascinating and moving photos from both sides of the divide.
Inauguration of the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Center, Augusta Victoria Hospital, East Jerusalem
The joint project of developing a Palestinian pediatric hemato-oncology center of excellence has come of age with the completion of the refurbishing of the Pediatric Wing at Augusta Victoria Hospital, East Jerusalem. The Augusta Victoria Hospital will host an inauguration ceremony, in the presence of project donors – Regione Marche, San Paolo Foundation of Italy and the Royal Danish Embassy. The project, initiated in partnership with the Peres Center, entailed the training of the entire staff of the Palestinian hospital in Israeli hospitals, and the complete refurbishment of the Pediatric Wing.

The Paltel Group, the leading business and economics group in the Palestinian Authority, headquartered in Ramallah, is honored to host international guests of the Peres Center for a session with senior Palestinian figures, and a visit to a leading Palestinian economic enterprise.
Joint Palestinian-Israeli Youth Activities of the “Twinned Peace Sport Schools” Program, Kiriyat Gat
View Palestinian and Israeli boys and girls enjoying joint soccer and basketball activities. Without regard to differences in nationality and religion, these children use the language of sport to communicate and become acquainted with one another.

Additional Activities
Launch of the “Peace Computer Centers” Project for 2008-09, Supported by the Junta de Andalucia, Lev Hasharon
In light of the visit of senior representatives of the Junta de Andalucia, and the long-term partnership between the Junta de Andalucia and the Peres Center for Peace, this event will include the launch of the Ramallah Peace Computer Center – the first of five new Peace Computer Centers currently being established in Palestinian communities. Participants will also visit an Israeli Peace Computer Center involved in the program, and view Israeli and Palestinian youth engaged in cross-border digital dialogue activities.
Special Performance of “New Beginnings”, Tel Aviv-Jaffa
The Peres Center’s “New Beginnings” performance – featuring a mixed Palestinian-Israeli cast that performs to youngsters aged 5 to 10 years – will feature in the International Children’s Theater Festival at the Arab-Hebrew Theater of Jaffa. The cast will perform for an audience comprised of Arab and Israeli children, delivering a message of peace and understanding.
